The ancient tradition of Icon painting uses pigments mixed with egg yolk and distilled water (egg tempera) painted onto a gesso ground. Gold leaf is used to highlight and enhance features of the Icon. Icon painters either revive early examples or create a modern version of a traditional image. The production process is long and detailed, the final finishing of the image taking place at least six months from the end of the painting process to allow for full drying out of the egg tempera.

Previous experience with art textiles and a Fine Art degree in painting has enriched my understanding of the demands of Icon painting.  Commissions welcome.
